Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce Strengthens Its Presence in the Nation’s Capital with Official FACES Mission to Advance Manufacturing Operations on the Island

Washington, D.C., May 12, 2025 — The Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CCPR) has launched an urgent mission to the nation’s capital as part of its Federal Affairs Chamber Educational Series (FACES), reaffirming its commitment as the Voice and Action of the Island’s private sector. The initiative seeks to advocate for key priorities for Puerto Rico, including economic and tariff reforms, the protection of critical federal funding, and the revitalization of the pharmaceutical industry—which represents nearly 40% of the Island’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

“This mission reinforces CCPR’s commitment to act swiftly and decisively in defense of Puerto Rico’s economic interests. We have held meetings with key members of Congress to ensure that federal funds earmarked for essential services—particularly those tied to the reconstruction of the Island’s electrical system—are not compromised,” stated Attorney Luis Pizarro Otero, President of the CCPR.

In parallel, CCPR is also participating in SelectUSA 2025, the premier U.S. event for promoting foreign direct investment, taking place through May 13 in the state of Maryland. The Chamber has arranged meetings with companies, investors, and economic development organizations to showcase Puerto Rico’s strengths as an ideal manufacturing hub. Among the factors presented are the Island’s proven track record as a global manufacturing base, a specialized and highly skilled workforce, and internationally recognized higher education institutions, such as the Mayagüez Campus of the University of Puerto Rico.

As part of the mission’s official program, CCPR will host the “Puerto Rico Open for Business” reception on May 14, an event bringing together influential U.S. Congress members, including those on committees relevant to Puerto Rico, along with Puerto Rican business leaders and public officials. The event aims to expand dialogue and strengthen relationships between Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., while highlighting the urgent need to rebuild the Island’s electrical system and advocating for the continuity of federal reconstruction funds designated for key infrastructure, housing, energy, and other critical projects.
