Puerto Rico Presents a United Front in Washington: Leading Business Organizations Advance a Shared Agenda at “Puerto Rico Open for Business”

Leading Business Organizations Return to the Nation’s Capital to Advance Investment, Reconstruction, and Competitiveness

San Juan, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CCPR) hosted the second edition of “Puerto Rico Open for Business,” a high-level reception in Washington, D.C., that brought together members of the United States Congress, representatives of the federal Executive Branch, officials from the Government of Puerto Rico, state legislators, business executives, and leaders from key sectors of Puerto Rico’s economy.

The event took place on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Top of the Hill Banquet & Conference Center, located across from the United States Capitol, as part of the official mission of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CCPR) and its Federal Affairs Chamber Educational Series (FACES) Committee.
For the second consecutive year, Puerto Rico Open for Business served as a strategic platform to strengthen dialogue between Puerto Rico and the federal government, promote investment and economic development opportunities, and present the Island’s priorities to key policymakers and decision-makers in Washington, D.C. As part of the mission’s agenda, meetings were also scheduled with members of Congress, representatives of the federal Executive Branch, the Office of the Resident Commissioner, and the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration (PRFAA), among other stakeholders.
“Today, more than ever, Puerto Rico must present itself in Washington with a unified voice. The collaboration among our leading business organizations demonstrates that we share a common vision for growth, competitiveness, and prosperity for the Island. This mission represents an invaluable opportunity to strengthen relationships, advance strategic initiatives, and continue positioning Puerto Rico as an attractive destination for investment, business, and economic development,” said Margaret Ramírez Báez, Esq., President of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s mission carries special significance as it brings together the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CCPR), the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA), and the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants (PRCPA)—three of the Island’s most influential business organizations—in a unified effort to present a coordinated message and a shared agenda aimed at advancing Puerto Rico’s economic development.

Among the priority issues discussed during the mission were the reconstruction and modernization of Puerto Rico’s energy system, the continuation of federal reconstruction funding, the development of critical infrastructure, housing, economic competitiveness, and the advancement of public policies that encourage investment, manufacturing, and job creation.
“Puerto Rico must be included in the United States’ national economic security strategy. We have everything needed to position ourselves as the nation’s premier reshoring destination. For more than 70 years, Puerto Rico has demonstrated global leadership as a center of excellence in pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical devices, and other high-tech industries. This joint mission reflects a united institutional and business front: the Island is ready to absorb the manufacturing capacity the nation needs to secure within its own territory,” said Rafael Vélez Domínguez, President of the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA).

he 2026 FACES Mission was coordinated by Cameron McKenzie, former President of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce and current Chair of the Federal Affairs Chamber Educational Series (FACES) Committee. McKenzie has led the planning efforts and engagement with federal leaders to advance an agenda focused on Puerto Rico’s key priorities.
“Puerto Rico Open for Business provides an opportunity to showcase Puerto Rico’s economic potential and strengthen partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our communities and productive sectors. We invite the private sector to join this collaborative initiative alongside the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association and the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants as we present Puerto Rico’s priorities before Congress with a unified and compelling message of collaboration and commitment to the Island,” said McKenzie.

According to David Rodríguez, President of the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants (PRCPA), “An effective tax policy is essential to driving economic development and creating opportunities. Puerto Rico already has a strong foundation; what we need now is greater alignment through continued dialogue with the federal government. The Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants is proud to join business leaders, industry organizations, and community representatives in Washington to advance Puerto Rico’s key priorities through this important collaborative initiative.”

The Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce encouraged business leaders, executives, professionals, and representatives from key economic sectors to participate in this important initiative of the Federal Affairs Chamber Educational Series (FACES), the Chamber’s ongoing federal advocacy program dedicated to educating, representing, and advancing the interests of Puerto Rico’s private sector on federal issues that directly impact the Island’s economic development.
Through strategic missions, meetings with members of Congress and federal officials, and high-level events, FACES strengthens the voice and representation of Puerto Rico’s private sector before the United States federal government.
