Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 111-year legacy and presents Education, Health, and Safety proposals as pillars for economic development

The presentation took place during the swearing-in of the new leadership of the business association alongside two dozen past presidents and special guests

San Juan, Puerto Rico August 9, 2024— As part of its 111th anniversary celebration, the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (PRCC) presented its new board of directors for the 2024-2025 period, led by Attorney Luis E. Pizarro-Otero, who will assume the position of President of the institution for the coming year. Similarly, the new PRCC Board of Directors, which includes about thirty professionals representing various economic and business sectors of the country, began its functions.

“As an institution, we have a legacy of 111 years of solid trajectory representing the voice and action of the private sector in Puerto Rico. We are committed to continue fostering economic development on the island, building on the work done by the PRCC in recent years, paying particular attention to the challenges presented by the migration of Puerto Ricans, and working to increase the possibilities for them to return home,” said Pizarro-Otero. “Our strategic priorities, according to the PRCC’s work plan for this election year, will prioritize efforts to enable changes in government public policy that directly impact education, our health system, and security as pillars for economic development,” he added.

The inauguration of the new guild leadership was held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel and was attended by the Governor of Puerto Rico, Hon. Pedro Pierluisi; several past presidents of the institution, as well as video messages from Hon. Don Graves, Deputy Secretary of Commerce of the United States Department of Commerce, and Hon. Timothy M. Kaine, Senator of the State of Virginia.

“I am deeply grateful to the members of the new Board of Directors and the elected officers of the PRCC for accepting the challenge of leading our efforts in this coming year,” said Attorney Liza García, Executive Director of the PRCC. “Their commitment to the Chamber and the economic development of Puerto Rico is fundamental in these times of great challenges. I am optimistic about the work we will do together to promote positive changes in our public policy to strengthen the island’s business sector,” García emphasized.

The new members of the PRCC Board of Directors are Attorney Margaret Ramírez-Báez, president-elect 2024-2025; José Julio Aparicio-Laspina, Esq., First Vice President; CPA Carlos E. De Ángel Ramírez, treasurer; Guido Lugo-Modesto, secretary; Luz B. Otero-Rivera, second vice president; Melvin Vega-Pérez, third vice president; Braulio Nieves-Román, director; Lydia Silva-Boschetti, Ph.D., director; Rosita Alicea M.B.A., director; Roberto Alsina, director; Mickey Espada-Medina, director; Rodrigo Zavala-González, director; Dr. Glorymar Rivera Baez, director; Neysa Barreto, director; Joanellis Fernández, director; Israel Menchaca-Dobal, director; Ramón A. Pérez-Blanco, Esq., past president; Adienid Muñiz-Cotté, president

of the Professional and Business Women’s Network; and Paola Morales-Carvajal, president of the Young Entrepreneurs Committee and University Student Chapters.
In addition to the new committee presidents, various affiliated associations, and professional guilds that were elected, were also sworn in, including Made in Puerto Rico, the College of Certified Public Accountants, the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association, the Western Chamber of Commerce, and the Southern Chamber of Commerce.

“As we commemorate 111 years of history and service, the Chamber of Commerce reaffirms its commitment to economic development and the well-being of our society. For more than a century, we have witnessed and been protagonists of Puerto Rico’s evolution, supporting companies of all sizes and sectors, and promoting a growth and opportunity environment. We look to the future with the same passion and dedication that has characterized us, ready to face the new challenges and opportunities that tomorrow holds with hope. Our legacy is not only a celebration of the past but a continuous promise to move forward with integrity and purpose for the benefit of Puerto Rico,” concluded Pizarro-Otero.
