Jorge Cañellas, CPA & Esq.

Former President, Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce

Attorney and CPA Jorge M. Cañellas Fidalgo demonstrated natural leadership and responsibility from a young age, helping his father as a store cashier at the tender age of 8. His drive for improvement led him to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Juris Doctor, both of which he earned Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico, subsequently qualifying as a Licensed Attorney and Certified Public Accountant.

He worked as an attorney at a prestigious local law firm and excelled in the tax area at Deloitte & Touche, where he was appointed partner. Later, he chose to join Ernst & Young, where he served as a partner for 20 years. He then became a special advisor at the law firm Fiddler González & Rodríguez. Currently, he serves as a tax advisor at Morell, Cartagena, Dapena and is President of AMICA PR, a real estate company in tourist areas, and President of Vinos de Mallorca, LLC (www.vinosdemallorcapr.com), a wholesale wine importer in full “start up.”

In 1993, aware of an unmet need in Puerto Rico, he co-founded Party City with his ex-wife, Aileen M. Amieiro, a successful family business of which he is a shareholder and advisor. His over 25 years of involvement in the chamber of commerce have established him as a forward-thinking leader. He has been a member of its Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, an advisor to several presidents, chairman of the Tax Affairs Committee on ten occasions, a member of various statutory committees, and a promoter of legislative measures in defense of the business class. He eventually chaired the Chamber of Commerce from 2013 to 2014. He has also chaired the Puerto Rican Association of Financial Analysts and the United Funds’ Board of Governors, and participated in the Chamber’s own Mentoring Program.

Attorney and CPA Jorge Cañellas is the proud father of Jorge Eduardo, Cristina Michelle, and Jean Manuel.
