Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Business and Government Sector Leaders with 2024 Zenit Awards
San Juan, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CCPR) and its president Lcdo. Ramón Pérez Blanco recognized a group made up of businessmen, executives, associations, government officials and journalists, with the Zenit Awards, the highest award conferred by the institution.
The CCPR awards the Zenit awards annually in recognition of excellence in the performance of associations, government agencies, businessmen and businesswomen who contribute significantly to the development of the business sector.
“We are proud to honor those who, through their dedication and vision, have driven business development, community development, and technological innovation in Puerto Rico. As an institution, we are committed to continuing to celebrate excellence and foster an environment conducive to economic progress and a better quality of life for our island,” said Pérez Blanco.
This year, the awards were presented as part of the culmination of CCPR’s annual Innovation Expo convention, held at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan. At the event, the results of the first studies commissioned by the institution to examine the circumstances surrounding the exodus of Puerto Ricans to the United States and the possibilities of their return to the island were announced.
The recipients of the 2024 Zenit Awards include the Association of Building Materials Merchants (ACMC), which received the award as Affiliate Association of the Year for its efforts in upholding the principles of private enterprise, through programs, projects and activities that have contributed to the general well-being of Puerto Rico. Journalist Carmen Jovet was honored with the Zenit Journalist of the Year award for her contribution to disseminating news or analysis in an objective, corroborated and impartial manner, as well as for projecting a positive image of Puerto Rico and promoting a better quality of life. The pharmaceutical company Merck received the Zenit award for the health sector within the framework of its 75th anniversary. This recognition is given to the entity, institution or company in the healthcare sector that has accumulated, during the year, a record of outstanding achievements that represent positive changes, improvements and innovations in the most important phases of its company’s operations or business leadership.
Agronomist Jorge Ramírez, president of the Made in Puerto Rico Association, received the 2023 – 2024 President’s Special Award, given for his efforts to uphold the principles of private enterprise, the country brand, through programs, projects and activities that have contributed to the general well-being of Puerto Rico.
Other honorees include Jose Manuel Baeza, president and chief executive officer of Teselta, as Entrepreneur of the Year. This recognition is given to the person who has excelled in his or her role as an entrepreneur and executive. In addition, he has done an extraordinary job in the origin, development and growth of a private entity in Puerto Rico, identifying himself with significant innovations in the ways of doing business or conducting his company. The Puerto Rico Tourism Company as Government Entity of the Year, this recognition is given to the government entity that has accumulated an outstanding track record of performance in the field of public instrumentalities, executive and legislative branches in public service. Grupo Navis as Institution of the Year, this recognition is given to the institution for having accumulated, during the year, a record of outstanding achievements in social management that includes work and collaboration for the benefit of groups or organizations with limitations or conditions of social, economic, physical or cultural disadvantage and to the Puerto Rico Innovation & Technology Service PRITS. Zenit Innovation Award for its technological management and innovation that includes work, transformation and digital collaboration for the benefit of citizens, groups or organizations in a way that promotes government agility and economic development.
