Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce Prepares Local Entrepreneurs for Upcoming Changes in Washington DC
The institution will hold an event with the purpose of educating businesspeople on the legislative processes of the United States Congress and the proposals of the candidates for Resident Commissioner
The event Find Out and Prepare for What’s Coming: Washington 2025, to be held on October 30, 2024 at the Caribe Hilton Hotel, aims to prepare private sector attendees for the changes in the federal government that are coming next year after the election process in November.
“This event has been conceptualized as a workshop to offer local entrepreneurs the basic concepts of the legislative process, the lobbying processes, both local and congressional, and the trends of the expected changes that a new federal administration will bring as of January 2025,” explained Luis E. Pizarro, Esq., president of the PRCC. “The initiative complements the efforts of the PRCC through the FACES committee that has made numerous trips to the federal capital to carry the message of Puerto Rico,” added the business leader.
“It is of vital interest for the business sector to pay attention to the legislative processes in Congress, which have an economic impact on issues such as tax policies, allocation of federal funds and regulations that affect the operation of businesses,” Pizarro said.
The candidates for Resident Commissioner in Washington will offer their vision and proposals for the economic development of Puerto Rico, in addition to proposing potential reforms to the education, health and security systems. “The Chamber of Commerce has established a series of programmatic public policy priorities focused on the concept of security and include Security of Protection, Economic Security and Doing Business in Puerto Rico, Energy Security, Tax Security and Food Security,” added Pizarro.
The candidates for the position that are confirmed participate at the event are William Villafañe Ramos of the New Progressive Party; Pablo José Hernández Rivera of the Popular Democratic Party; Ana Irma Rivera Lassén of the Citizens’ Victory Movement; and Ms. Viviana Ramírez Morales of the Dignity Project.
The agenda will feature the participation of José Julio Aparicio, Esq., first vice president of the PRCC and president of the Federal Affairs Committee (FACES); Jerry Weller, retired member of the U.S. Congress and partner at NWG Advocacy LLC; Raúl Candelario, Esq., president and founder of The RCL Group LLC, and advisor to the president of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce; Liza M. García, Esq., executive director of the PRCC; Carlos Dalmau, lawyer, strategist, public policy advisor and professor of Law; Alexandra Lúgaro Aponte, Esq., businesswoman and analyst at WAPA TV; and Carlos Mercader Pérez, Esq., former director of PRFAA.
The workshop will end with a discussion and analysis of the possible scenarios in the national election and their implications for Puerto Rico’s economy. The leadership of the business institution publicly called on the private sector to participate in this workshop and take advantage of the data that will be discussed at the event.
